The Informatics Ventures Event Management System is a web application used for the archival and reporting of Informatics Ventures events. It allows Informatics Ventures staff to enter details of events and event participants as well as enabling participants to get in touch with people they have been to events with. It also allows guests to view events on the site that have been organised by Informatics Ventures and the companies involved in these events. Additionally, the application has a simple reporting page based on the Google Maps API, that displays the location of event participants.
Business: Informatics Ventures is a support group for start ups in Scotland that approached MHN about creating an internal database about the companies they were supporting to satisfy their auditors, an EU body. MHN worked together with the client to determine the details of the specification and were provided with raw data to process. Once the data had been incorporated into a web application, the client began using the application to collect their own data. Through MHN's rapid delivery of design and product development, the final product was completed in time to satisfy the client's auditors. Furthermore, MHN's unique blend of practicality and creativity contributed to producing an application that became used in a form outside of the original specifications, as the client used the application as an internal live document to gather their own data.
Technology: The Informatics Ventures Event Management System was developed as a Ruby on Rails application integrated with the Google Maps API. It provides a comprehensive data schema for the management of events, attendees and associated companies and provides reporting functions based on this.
